Opt–out bloodborne virus testing
End of Opt–out bloodborne virus testing
As of Monday, 2nd March 2026, the practice will no longer offer the Opt-out bloodborne virus testing service. This now means all patients aged 18 and over will no longer have a Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV test as part of their routine blood tests.
Even though out Opt‑out testing service will finish, your health remains our priority. HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C can affect anyone, and testing is the best way to make sure you stay well. Modern treatments are highly effective, especially when things are caught early. We encourage you to get tested - it’s quick, confidential, and puts you in control of your health. Speak to your GP to arrange a test or request an at home test kit.
The benefits of routine testing include:
- Earlier diagnosis and more successful treatment results
- Fewer instances of misdiagnosis of conditions with similar symptoms
- Fewer and shorter hospitals stays
- Improved health outcomes and lower risk of transmission within communities
- Reduced need for costly drugs and healthcare
Starting Friday, we will no longer offer routine testing for Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, and HIV.
